Plain gold band with a groove of lettering, hilltop stubble field

What I reckon it is: Plain gold band with a shallow groove of lettering around the outside.
Gear used: Mid-range VLF, eleven-inch coil, all metal, hand ground balance.
Where & when: Hilltop stubble field, four inches down.
Appraised value: $250-$650

A soft, steady tone — the kind that makes you slow the swing. Wide plug. The band came out on its side with soil packed in the lettering groove.

No stone, no maker mark I can name in the field. The groove holds a short run of letters; I left the dirt in the cut for the photo. Dry brush only. Reported before dark.

Gold ring, complete, with a legible inscription groove. That is a proper day out. The plain form makes it hard to date tightly, but the section and the weight sit comfortably in the seventeenth to eighteenth century range. Get it under a microscope before you decide the lettering is gone.

Agree on rare. It is gold and it is whole, which puts it well above the ordinary, but plain bands turn up often enough that it is not in the top tiers. If those letters resolve into a posy motto the value moves up sharply.
